The Coach House - The Butts


This building was originally built as the coach house and stables for Mulberry House, originally known as The Butts. Built in 1835 by George Seagram as a ‘Dower House’ for his mother, the main house is Grade II listed.

The MOD bought the house in 1949 for use as the quarters of the Major General in charge of the Regular Commissions Board (now called the Army Officer Selection Board) in Westbury. The Coach House was converted into a 2-bedroom flat above the stables for the General’s batman.

Penelope and David Fairclough bought Mulberry House from the MOD in 1982. When they came to sell in 2018, they downsized to The Coach House, converting it into a 3-bed house by adding an extension.
