Mrs. Morrison was a local historian, folklorist and collector. She had been a school teacher in London and moved to Bratton in 1956 with her husband Gilbert. They lived at ‘Ballards’ with the Misses Dermer.

She took an interest in all the village activities, collected many items of local significance and as part of her research she wrote a booklet about St. James’ church which is still available. For many years she served on the Parish Council. Her final home in Bratton was Priory Cottage in Stradbrook.

Following an exhibition in the village, several items including a sewing machine, farming tools and implements went to the Avebury Museum which she helped found and encouraged others to visit.

Mrs. Morrison collected toys, clay pipes, kitchen items, catalogues from the Reeves iron works but her greatest passion was clothing and accessoriesincluding parasols, hats, etc. This collection is now at the Trowbridge Museum and is still undergoing cataloguing. The collection includes a purple 1920’s flapper dress and a gorgeous blue silk Victorian boy’s dress. Some intricately decorated purses and evening bags are also included. The collection will be well worth a visit once cataloguing is completed.
