Joan & Bert CookJoan was born in West End, Westbury and after her marriage to Bert in 1947 she moved to Church Hill Cottage, Bratton. She was member of St. James Church all her life and became Treasurer of the P.C.C., a Sunday school teacher and for many years her sweet singing voice was an asset to the choir. She worked as secretary at R. & J. Reeves while Bert worked in the nurseries of Phil Smith. Joan was well loved in the community and was always willing to help and was a regular baby sitter for families in the village. Later in life Joan and Bert moved to Clover Grass Court and they became involved in the activities there. They both enjoyed being members of the Silver Threads club, attending meetings, supporting sales, raffles, etc. especially enjoying the entertainment provided if it involved singing. Joan was regularly seen around the village in her ‘buggy’. Bert died in 2001 and Joan moved to Henford House near Warminster in 2013 and died in 2018. [Return] |
