Claire Stack: Moonrakers, Magic and Mead: Contemporary Paganism in Wiltshire's Sacred Landscape
Claire Stack: Moonrakers, Magic and Mead: Contemporary Paganism in Wiltshire's Sacred Landscape

5pm Sunday 19 September 2027

Wiltshire has long been known for its sacred landscape from Neolithic chambers to Roman temple sites. However, Wiltshire is still a sacred place for many today with Pagan pilgrims from around the world flocking to sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury for solstice and equinox celebrations. This talk will explore this contemporary heritage through an ethnographic lens, taking conversations around spirituality, folklore, heritage and conservation into long barrows, holy wells, historic buildings and stone circles across the county.

Claire Slack is a folklorist who is currently studying for her Professional Doctorate in Heritage at the University of Hertfordshire. She has worked on everything from Paganism and magic to the folklore of fungi. She is also the Project Engagement and Interpretation Officer at Wiltshire Museum.
